DistribuTECH is one of the largest annual conference and exhibition events for electric power transmission and distribution in US.It addresses technologies used to move electricity from the power plant through the transmission and distribution systems to the meter and inside the home. Held in the San Diego Convention Center from More than 13,500 Individuals from 78 Countries, including qualified professionals from 326 Electric, Gas and Water Utilities as well as Renewable Generators attended DistribuTECH in Feb 2017.

In the conference session, a variety of presenters and attendees discussed 14 Tracks including Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI), Customer Strategies and Technology, Big Data Analytics, DER & DR and Other Non-wires Alternatives, Distribution Automation System, Internet of Things/Smart Cities and Microgrids.

With our booth theme “Advancing Digital Energy Solution”, more than 6 Hitachi companies (Hitachi America – Energy Solutions Division and R&D, Hitachi Consulting, Hitachi T&D Solutions, Metglas, Inc., Hitachi Chemical and Hitachi, Ltd.) from both US and Japan demonstrated the future potential and benefits that IoT-connected energy solutions will bring about through the use of Lumada, Hitachi’s IoT core platform that achieves significant collaborative creation between the company and energy providers. Hitachi also introduced other innovations, such as the microgrid solutions, Transmission & Distribution solutions, asset management services for distributors, improvements in preventive maintenance operations and other energy-related displays.

Hitachi is collaborating with customers in North America to deliver energy generation and management solutions, including energy storage, distributed energy resource management and full scale microgrids. This work is informed by past projects like Hitachi’s large-scale smart grid project which seeks to integrate high levels of photovoltaics (PV), wind energy, and electric vehicles into an island-based smart grid environment on the island of Maui. The Maui project also includes a trial implementation of an energy storage system intended to help maintain grid stability for the island.
