Itaru Nishizawa, Ph.D.

Nishizawa joined the Central Research Laboratory of Hitachi, Ltd. in 1996 as a researcher, working on parallel database management systems, middleware systems, and stream data management systems. In 2013, he transferred to the business side of operations, working in the IT Platform Division to develop real-time data management solutions for the global market. In 2015, he returned to the newly established Global Center for Social Innovation in the research organization to lead customer co-creation projects in CME (communications, media, and entertainment) and finance verticals. In 2017, he was appointed to the Center for Technology Innovation, where he led the research centers responsible for digital technology and services until March 2023 before assuming his current position as the head of the entire research organization.

Nishizawa received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Tokyo. He was a visiting scholar in the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University (2002-2003) and is also an alumnus of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program (2018). He is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ), and Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).
